Garvies Point Museum & Preserve is a natural history museum dedicated to Long Island & New York State geology and Long Island Native American archaeology including many special exhibits, currently showing, “Seashells…Nature’s Inspired Design.” Plus an interactive “Woodland Village” for children and adults.
Our nature preserve consists of 62 acres with 5 miles of marked trails including a self-guiding trail and trail for the visually impaired. Woodlands of varying ages, meadows, ponds, bird & butterfly-friendly gardens, and 2,000 feet of natural, unaltered rocky shoreline along Hempstead Harbor can be explored. Our museum & preserve are known for its rich geological and archaeological history.
We offer a multitude of educational programming for families, schools, scouts, and home school groups plus special events, volunteer opportunities, craft workshops, Children’s Summer Day Camps, and birthday parties throughout the year. Be sure to visit our excellent Museum Gift Shop!
